Gooseberries
Gooseberries are small, round, tart fruits with a distinctive, thin and slightly hairy skin. They are high in fiber and vitamin C, often used in jams, pies, and desserts due to their tangy flavor, and are known for their potential health benefits related to blood sugar control and antioxidant properties. They can be eaten raw when ripe, but are usually cooked due to their initial sourness; green gooseberries are particularly tart and are often used in savory dishes as well. “Indian gooseberry” is a different fruit, often called Amla, which is not closely related.

Unique Flavor and Color Profile
The taste of gooseberries varies from very tart to sweet depending on variety and ripeness, with a slightly acidic flavor. They can range in color from green to yellow, red, or purple.
